Ruth: From Lincoln Memorial to Lululemon

The book launch behind us, we all decided to head to the Lincoln Memorial to soak in a bit of ‘Mr. Smith Goes to Washington’ nostalgia. We headed back to the car via the Vietnam Memorial. The biting cold, wind stopped us from lingering too long in front of that beautiful piece of marble : « When will they ever learn ? When will they ever learn ? »
We then hurried to our lunch date with Nabil Abuznaid, Chargé d’Affaires of the PLO Mission, Abdullah Abdullah, Chariman of the Political Committee of the Palestinian Legislative Council, and others from the PLO Mission. Mr. Abuznaid believes that during this Obama moment, it would be wonderful if 500,000 Palestinians and 500,000 Israelis were to assemble carrying each others flags and calling for peace. « If a couple of crazy terrorists can capture the world’s attention, surely 1 million people calling for peace can as well ! » Nira loves the idea, though she thinks we could have the same effect with fewer people. Trust a woman a to come up with a more realistic and practical proposition. They happily exchanged cards and kisses at the end of the lunch. Keep a lookout for the peace march !
Reem did a bit of damage (to her pocketbook) at Ann Taylor before Patricia raced her to the airport in time for her flight. Nira, Louise and I went to the Hirshhorn exhibit to see the new Panza acquisition. Louise would have gladly taken home a couple of Calders and the magenta Rothko. And even though we were all exhausted, we decided to make one more visit to Georgetown. And to my delight, Lululemon (where I stock up on yoga clothing) was not only open, they were holding a store opening cocktail party ! A glass of champagne followed by a lovely dinner on M Street was the perfect end to a successful and emotionally charged week.
