Patricia Smith: Sunday

Today, chaos! The books are still in the port in Tel Aviv after three weeks of delay from bureaucracy, Jewish holidays, and bad advice! A Kafkaesque maze.

And the CD video of the women in the book to be shown at the launches didn’t work with the equipment here. So we burned a DVD from the files on the computer and it still didn’t work. Back and forth from Jerusalem’s Cinemateque theater and the hotel. Finally found a way and connections to project directly from my computer. It took most of the day, but suddenly it was there. Perfect! The women together from both sides of the Wall on the screen, speaking their truth, even if in You Tube-size sounds bites.

The books are promised now for tomorrow delivery, 3000 of them. It’s the Middle East, one prays heavily for simple things, and usually Whatever is in charge of the universe comes through, even if at the last minute. When will it work that way for peace?
